Fall Foliage and October Things to Do in Lancaster County

Lancaster County has so many things going for it in the fall, including the beautiful fall colors that flood the area.

A breathtaking pallet of bright oranges, lime greens, and yellows paint the trees in true autumn hues, prompting visitors to step back, slow down, and take in the refreshing scenery. According to Smoky Mountains interactive map, a good time to see nature at its best in Lancaster County is during the first couple of weeks of October. It’s easy to check the map to help you plan your foliage visit, then check our list below for other great things to do this October.

  1. October Weekends. The Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair is open Saturdays and Sundays and runs through the end of October. Time Travelers weekend is the 5th & 6th, while Halloween Days and Spooky Knights finish out the season. You still have time!
  2. October 1 – 26. The Fulton’s current show is “Beautiful: the Carol King Musical.” Do you feel the Earth Move Under Your Feet?
  3. October 5. Once called the Porchwalk, you can now take a stroll the Lititz Springs’ Parkwalk to peruse artisans’ unique pieces in a variety of media. Unlike the infamous August Craftshow, this one is RAIN OR SHINE, haha! Get a start your Christmas shopping.
  4. October 10-26. This is always a fun way to find new places in Lancaster County: it’s the Best Kept Secrets Tour! You can reserve your ticket online or at selected shops, then you get a map of participating merchants as well as coupons and passes for discounts and treats. You have more than two weeks to visits the shops, or you can do them all in a day or two if you’re dedicated.
  5. October 12. Lititz has another event this month with their Chocolate Walk. It’s a rather crowded event, so be sure to get your tickets in advance.
  6. October 12. Not a chocolate fan? Then try Marietta’s Blues, Brews, and “Boos” Music and Street Faire. There will be music, beer, food, artisans, and a ghost costume contest. It’s all on Front Street from 1-6pm.
  7. October 12 & 13. Not a chocolate, brews, or boos fan? Get out to Landis Valley for their annual Harvest Days Festival. Taste some heirloom apples, watch some hearth-cooking and artisan demonstrations, and a lot of other fun stuff. You can even pick up a pumpkin
  8. October 26. It’s Wolf Awareness Day and the perfect time to take a trip out to the Wolf Sanctuary. Did you know that wolves are more active in cooler weather? Make your reservation for anytime during the year and a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide will tell you all about the fury, four-footed guys who call sanctuary home.
  9. October 26 – Nov 3. A tribute to another musical great: “Ain’t Too Proud – The Live and Times of the Temptations” at Hershey Theater, and it’s only 23 minutes from accommodations at Olde Square Inn. Know what I say to that? Look out baby, ’cause here I come!
  10. October – November 2. How good are you at getting out of places without your GPS? Will you make it, or will you be trapped like a drowning rat? Check your skills when you attempt to go through the corn maze at Oregon Dairy. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  11. October – varied dates. Want to hear weird, spooky, and eery tales about Lancaster County while riding a train? Not recommended for kids!
