11 Things You’ll Want to Do in Lancaster County Before the End of Summer

End of summer?!! What?!  We know some of you are buying school supplies – happily or otherwise – but there’s still a lot of vacation time left to enjoy. Try these on for size in these last luscious weeks of the season:

July 28 – Main Street Mount Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine.  11am – 2pm.  See fun cars, eat from food trucks and dine at area restaurants. Fun!

August 4Mount Gretna Tour of Homes. Do you ever walk around at night when people have their lights on and you can see into their houses? I love looking in other people's homes (in a non peeping-tom way). On this tour you get to take a look into some of these great houses and poke around in their gardens without getting arrested. Get tickets in advance or at the tour.

August 4Rivertown Hops in Columbia. After the Tour of Homes hop down to Columbia (haha!) from 4-8pm. Your ticket gets you a sample glass for  - what else - drink samples  - throughout the hop and tastes of foods. You can also purchase bites from food trucks. If tickets are sold out ahead of time, they won't sell them at the door (obviously).

August 4PA Renn Faire opens this weekend!! And runs through October. Get your costumes together or go as you are. So many things to do there, and who wants to drive home after eating giant turkey legs and watching jousts? All wenches, knights, kings and queens love the convenience of a stay at Olde Square Inn. We’re only 13 miles away.

August 10 – It’s my birthday! AND there’s Latin music, food, and dancing – including salsa lessons! – at Bube’s Brewery, Club Alois.

August 11Lititz Craft Show. It’s the big one, Alice! Crafters wait three years just to get a spot at this show. It's crowded and a lot of fun and there's a ton of stuff to look at and buy. Go poke around at the show, come back to the Inn,to swim because you'll be hot, then go across the street for dinner at Rosie's Tavola. (By the way, my favorite drink at Rosie's is Rosie's Petals. Try it!)

August 15 - 18Bookworm Frolic. Don't you just love books? So many books, so little time. This is a giant used-book sale, held rain or shine, with over 40,000 books from which to choose. Even I can't read all of those. Generally 9am-7pm, except Wednesday.

August 15 – 18  Fiber Festival. People into sewing knitting, quilting, paper crafts, Zentangle, crocheting, spinning, weaving,  needle felting,  hand embroidery and other fiber arts, you now have your OWN festival in downtown Lancaster. Lots of vendors, lots of classes, lots to see!

August 18 and 19Mount Gretna Outdoor Art Show. You've seen Gretna Homes and Lititz crafts, now go look at more art. You'll love walking the grounds and getting a start on your Christmas Shopping!

August 20 – 25 Elizabethtown Street Fair.  Whaaaaaat? Already?! Be the first in your neighborhood to get a funnel cake, meet the fair queen, look at the livestock, and see who will have won the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest.

August 31 – Sept 2 Long’s Park 40th Annual Art Festival. Okay, it's the last craft show in August. Honest. This is a juried craft show of fine arts and high-quality crafts and draws people from many, many states over. It also helps fund their summer concerts.

What will you pick to do before summer's end?
