Fall Newsletter

We reached our one year mark, and what a year it has been! Marked with many blessings and challenges through the first year.

A glimpse at some of our best moments....when George played the heart out of the piano and Jan sang, the guest with an autistic young teenager told me that she had such a great respite because I embraced her and her son, the couple who married here with their dog at their side, the kindness written in the journals....and the blessings go on.

It is you, our guest, and your reviews that keep us reaching to be the best. When you come to The Olde Square Inn, we want you to feel that this has been an excellent respite and that you have been well taken care of.

The Key Largo Suite will be opening towards the end of fall. A very large suite done in the Gulf West colors of cream and teal. A two-person soaking tub for the romantic evening awaits you. Tucked away from all the stress and a world unto your own!

Restoration of the guest rooms has been almost completed. There are still touches to be added and a few carpentry items of detail, but for the most part, we have it where it should be. We listened to you, our guest, on what you wanted in the rooms, and we responded by giving you your requests. It is the little details such as a desk, rocker, Wi-Fi, pegs to hang your clothes, good hangers, excellent breakfast, and clean clean clean! We heard, and we keep listening as we want to be the best.

We wanted to appeal to both genders and different age groups. This was kept in mind with the decorating. The Inn is decorated using colors inspired by the West and the Gulf of Mexico. Frilly we aren't. Clean lines, great hospitality, and good food are what we are all about. Some of the rooms are done in "old world" style, and the other ones are done contemporary style.

The Carriage House is set apart and has privacy within a world of itself. Hand-painted walls, large, romantic and sought after.

The gardens were in their glory and have been expanded. New flowers, shrubs and trees have been planted. We expanded the seating areas in the landscape, and the porches are inviting as breakfast is served on the veranda as long as the weather permits.

A new Web site has been built by Acorn Internet Services. We love the new look and are anxious to hear what you have to say about it.

Small, intimate weddings are our next achievement. There is a definite need for a niche in the small wedding venue. A venue of reasonable costs and where memories are made. Innkeepers who want to help assist you with your dreams being fulfilled. Here at The Olde Square Inn we believe we can fill that void. As you view the website, you will see the renovations, gardens, verandas, the pool (in-season) as to why the inn will be a lovely venue for small weddings, parties, showers, and retreats.

Reaching the business/corporate world is important to us. Amtrak is located two blocks from the inn, no need for a car as you can walk to great restaurants, laundry facilities are around the corner, the spa next door.

Mount Joy itself is growing by leaps and bounds. New restaurants in every direction and many within walking distance. Opening of boutiques, antique shops, a spa one minute from the inn, ATMs, a delightful coffee shop waiting for your exploration.

The biggest news is Amtrak. We now have a pick-up and drop-off site for Amtrak two blocks from the inn. Amtrak has started the work on building a walkway, cobblestone street, a covered station, fiesta area for visitors coming in and out of the area. You can come from New York, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and other areas by Amtrak. The Hertz rental car in Harrisburg offers concierge service when you drop your car off to the train station!

Interested in owning an inn or becoming an innkeeper, contact Scott and Marilyn Bushnell of Bushnell & Bushnell Services. Have your innkeeping seminar at the inn. What better way to learn what innkeeping is all about.

Next on the horizon................the third-floor patio, new flooring for the entrance way and kitchen, maybe even a new kitchen stove for me! Yeah! We are starting the renovation of the lowest level, since we will have to move out of Key Largo which I love so you, our guests, can enjoy!

Come, relax, read, play the piano, whatever the reason we will make your stay an enjoyable one.
